Comprising three movements, the concerto expresses an energised mood from the outset, with soloist and band actively engaging in rhythmic and fanfaric gestures.

The soloist performs on alto saxophone for the duration of the first and third movements.

In the second movement, which takes the form of an extended rondo, the soloist’s soprano saxophone comes to the fore.
